Château Observatoire d'Antoine d'Abbadie
Designed and constructed by the famous architect Viollet-le-Duc between 1860 and 1870, Antoine d'Abbadie's castle looks out over the Ocean. Its external architecture is clearly inspired by medieval patterns. D'Abbadie's interest in the Orient appears in all the interior decoration and furniture.
Antoine d'Abbadie (1810-1897), installed and observatory in his castle so that teams of scientists could make catalogues of stars.
As a serious traveller, he made the first reliable maps of Ethiopia. He was also strongly devoted to the Basque country and contributed actively to the recognition of the Basque language and culture.
