Château d'Arcangues
The Chateau d'Arcangues is located in the heart of the French Basque Country, a few miles from Biarritz and close to the Atlantic coast and the Spanish border.
In 1150 the Lord of Arcangues and Curutcheta build his first house and gave his name to the village. Since then, the d'Arcangues family has been living on the same location until today.
The actual chateau is the fourth one and was rebuilt in 1900. The previous one had been destroyed by the Spanish armies in 1636 during the 30 Years War.
The chateau is decorated with a unique ensemble of artwork : old furniture, paintings, antiques, Gobelins and Aubusson tapestries, a large library with more than 20.000 books, French and English silverware, and a collection of autographs of famous guests.
