Eglise Saint-Martin de Samer
Saint-Martin (315-397) was the bishop of Tours and was a soldier by profession. At Amiens be famously distinguished by the charity be displayed towards a poor man, with whom be shared his cloak.
The church is situated on high ground and stands out like an island in the middle of the cuesta of the Boulonnais : it is built in a flamboyant Gothic style and is rendered both remarkable and picturesque by the buildings that about into its edifice. It was the common practice in the middle ages to construct houses and shops adjacent to churches, especially against the façade. Only two churches in Europe have retained of this ancient building technique - the other church is in the former Czechoslovakia.
