wing ordered by King François I Photo: Lauginie The front courtyard of the François I wing and especially the staircase is the most famous part of chateau Royal de Blois. The decoration of the staircase and the facade focuses the innovations ordered by French King Francois Ist and Claude de France. The ornamentation of Italian inspiration, is characteristic of the first French Renaissance facade is crisscrossed with a network of horizontal moldings and pilasters (flat columns leaning against the wall) framing the windows. The polygonal staircase with views to the interior and exterior of the castle thanks to large bay shaped balconies. The view from these balconies was double: sometimes view from the courtyard (in order to see the king moving down the stairs) and sometimes view from the balconies the festivities in the courtyard. Royal emblems, (salamanders crowned monogram of Francis I and F and C of the king and queen) are present on the entire facade.

Boukef The top of the wall is crowned by a massive cornice (where shells side by side with the ancient medieval gargoyles very aesthetic) which runs a carved balustrade, this breaks the horizontal momentum imparted by the vertical skylights, very high and summed shrines of pediments whose niches contain statues of putti (naked children inspired antique) ..
Louis XII wing and small staircase Photo: D.lepissier Built for the king and Anne of Brittany, Louis XII the wing of the Royal Castle of Blois remains faithful to Gothic forms, but reflects a new lifestyle and a new focus on domestic distribution inspired by Italy . In April 1498, Louis XII began to rebuild the castle of Blois, his favorite residence where he was born. The project is conducted rapidely. At the end of 1500, the house was rebuilt "any new and sumptuous as well as work seemed roy". Further work is performed under the reign of Louis XII and Anne of Brittany. The chapel of Saint-Calais, also rebuilt. It now houses the Museum of Fine Arts of the city of Blois.
Louis XII wing, Court. Photo: D.lepissier Côté Cour, the Louis XII wing present a more open. The facade appears less massive: it opens on the ground floor with a gallery alternating pillars and columns carved candelabra adorned with royal emblems. It is confined to either side by two towers with spiral staircases. The square tower on the left (north side) houses the staircase and form a real pavilion flanked by a corbelled turret provides access to the upper room. A carved panel of the stair tower shows a porcupine crowned chosen as the emblem by Louis XII for his ability to throw its quills .. .
