Château de Montaner

The large red brick fortress still proudly shows off its donjon. From this dominating position, Gaston Fébus (1331-1391), themost flamboyant of the princes of the Béarn, defended his sovereign state against Gascony under English rule. Below the fortified wall stands the church of Saint Michel, contemporary in the castle (admirable set of 15th and 16th century frescos : visit recommended).

Open every day in July and August from 10 am to 7 pm. From the 1st of April to the 30th of June and from the 1st of September to the 2nd of November : open every day except on Tuesday from 2 pm to 7 pm.
Exhibitions during the summer.
