Musée Régional Dupuy-Mestreau

Built in 1738 for the marquis Antoine Guinot de Monconseil, the mansion housed the "prefecture" of the Charente Inférieure from 1790 to 1810, and became a museum in 1920. It is the most strinkigly example of 18th century civil architecture in Saintes. Inside, there is a rich collection of regional objects (signs, pottery, engravings, paintings, jewellery, costumes and head-dresses, weapons, models of boats and the interior of typical farm house) which illustrate the former way of life of the people of the region.
