Maison de Pierre Loti
The home of the writer Pierre Loti is the most original and imaginative example of a late 19th century house. Julien Viaud, alias Pierre Loti, was born there on 14th Janury 1850, into a protestant family of many mariners. Naval officer, academician and famous author of Azyadé and Pêcheur d'Islande, he transformed little by little the family home with decors which he designed on return from his assignments : the mosque, the Turkish room, the Arabian bedroom - side by side with a Renaissance and a Gothic room - offering the visitor a journey back in time to the Orient, so idealised by Pierre Loti.
